Teach Me To Shop Smarter Online
Why
Internet Bargains Aren't Always Cheap
Bargains are not easy to find, but the Internet
merchants seem to have an endless supply. Shopping on the Internet
can be convenient, and may bring up lots of bargains, but are
these bargains really as cheap as they sound? Consumers may
think they’re paying little for some products, but online bargains
may have a hidden expense. Online bargain hunters may encounter
problems, such as buying sub par items, credit card fraud,
and wasting time looking for bargains, and high shipping costs.
Finding products at lower prices is a fact of life. Consumers
have been hunting for bargains since the beginning of time.
The Internet has millions of e-commerce web sites that offer
discounted prices of products. The quality of a particular
product may not be the same at a discounted price. Consumers
should ask themselves, why an online merchant might be offering
a lower price. Sometimes, quality must come before
price. Some
general items aren't going to matter as much when it comes
to the brand name, such as pet supplies, or sporting goods
supplies that are disposable such as practice golf balls. However,
buying at a discounted price online puts shoppers at a disadvantage,
because they won’t be able to examine the merchandise before
receiving it, and many of the discounted products are non-refundable.
So, if a product at a cheap price is sub-par, consumers will
not be able to return them, and something that seemed like
a bargain becomes a financial loss. Wholesale sites are usually
the best sites for bargains, but many of the products aren’t
the same as products at retail prices.
Another problem online bargain shoppers may encounter is an
increased risk of credit card fraud. Consumers should be advised,
that many bargain web sites have depleted security, and many
of their shoppers’ credit card information is left unguarded.
Hackers are more attracted to the small bargain sites, because
many of those sites don’t have SSL encryption. Online shoppers
credit card information would be left unsecured, so any hacker
could purchase with their credit card, or use their personal
information for other uses. The Internet bargain shopper’s
best choice is to shop for bargains on bigger sites such as
eBay and Amazon.
Finding
bargains online is not an easy task. Consumers looking for
bargains online will waste hours of their time searching.
Using specific terms in the search engine, will give a narrowed
set of results, but it won’t help in finding the cheapest prices.
Most consumers will have to know which sites have the cheapest
prices, and this takes some research. Consumers may lose hours
of time researching the bargain sites. Internet shopping is
supposed to save time, but shopping for bargains will waste
time. Bargains seem to be a dime a dozen, and most retail shoppers
are lucky to find them. Shopping online is not so pleasant
when it takes three hours.
If
you are shopping online, any item you purchase will have
to be shipped. Most online bargains don’t come with
free shipping. It may seem like a bargain online, but the shipping cost of
a product will offset the discounted price. So shipping costs
may force the bargain hunter to pay more online, than in the
retail store. There is no limit to the shipping price range
of any items. However some sites like Overstock.com have very
low shipping prices starting at $1.00, but shoppers shouldn’t
be surprised if items aren’t priced as low as they want.
Internet shopping is a great convenience, but shoppers should
be aware a lower price usually means greater risks on the Internet.
Shoppers should also know that Internet bargains don’t always
come cheap. Bad merchandise, credit card fraud, time-consuming
research, and high shipping prices can turn an online bargain
shopping experience bad. Consumers should be wary that items
at bargain prices aren’t always what they seem. Sometimes it’s
better to stick to retail stores when searching for a bargain.
If you’re confused or lost when looking for bargains online,
then it’s best to go to a retail store. Shopping online is
fast, and convenient, but it can be a hassle to find bargains
online, and consumers will find it easier to find bargains
elsewhere.
